Kennedy Space Center
The Kennedy Space Center is a great place to visit – just a 90 minute drive from the Disney area.
The launch date of the new Kennedy Space Center attraction Shuttle Launch Experience is set for 25th May. The 44 passanger simulator will take guests on an 8 minute journey of a launch into space. Guests will walk over a gantry, hear a mission briefing and then enter one of four cabins. They will then experience the launch, including the separation of the solid rocket boosters, and a moment of Zero-G upon reaching orbit. The payload doors will then open giving them a view of Earth from orbit.
This sounds a lot like Mission Space to us – although there is a promise that the G-Forces will not be as intense as they are on the EPCOT ride. The height limit is 48 inches.
For those interested in seeing a real launch NASA is targeting June 8 as the next possible launch opportunity for Atlantis on mission STS-117. If you get the chance go and see it – we went many years ago and it has to be one of the most amazing things we have ever seen.
